Lyalin’s maneuvers in Merevo

“And they remember well those days! With cause all Russia fashions lays” The line from the Lermontov’s poem gave name to the festival that took place in the village of Merevo, Luga District, Leningrad region.

Merevo is a family estate of the Hero of the Patriotic War 1812 General Mayor Dmitry Lyalin. During his 30-year service in the army he took part in 5 sea battles and 27 field battles with Swedish and French armies, was awarded orders and medals. His portrait is displayed in the famous galley at the Hermitage.

Historical clubs re-enacted a battle of the Patriotic War of 1812. The war episode was preceded by consecration of the Sts. Peter and Paul Chapel, which was built by the villagers.
